Professor Shanhui Fan ,
Electrical Engineering, Stanford University

Shanhui Fan has been an assistant professor of electrical engineering at the Stanford University since 2001. He received his Ph. D in 1997 in theoretical condensed matter physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and was a research scientist at the Research Laboratory of Electronics at MIT prior to his appointment at Stanford. His research interests are in computational and theoretical studies of solid state and photonic structures and devices, especially photonic crystals, microcavities, and nanophotonic circuits and elements. He has 110 refereed journal articles published or accepted, has given more than 70 invited talks, and holds 19 granted US patents. Prof. Fan is a recipient of a National Science Foundation Career Award, and a David and Lucile Packard Fellowship in Science and Engineering.
