Peter Seitz is professor in optoelectronics at the Institute of Microtechnology at the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland, and he is currently on extended leave from CSEM (Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology) as Vice President Photonics and member of CSEM's executive board: For one year, he is heading the Science & Technology activities of Swissnex, annex to the Consulate General of Switzerland in
San Francisco.
Peter received his Ph.D. degree in physics in 1984 from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in

. From 1984 to 1987 he was a staff member of the RCA research laboratories in
Princeton
,
New
Jersey
and
Zurich
,
Switzerland
. In 1987 he joined the Paul Scherrer Institute in
Zurich
, where he formed the Image Sensing research group. Since 1997 he is working for CSEM. Peter has authored more than 150 publications in the fields of applied optics, semiconductor image sensing, machine vision and optical microsystems engineering. He holds 20 patents, and he has won numerous awards together with his teams. For the past six years, Peter was the Secretary General of the European Optical Society EOS, and he still serves as an EOS board member.
